Exodus 22:5 "If a fire breaks out and spreads through thorns..."At camp, Aaron's group was hiking around the lake.
The sun was setting and they were searching for a good place to light a bonfire.
Aaron came upon an ideal spot and pointed it out to their counselor.
"It looks great," agreed the counselor. "But I'm afraid of that corn-field nearby. By accident, our fire may spark a flame that might catch onto the corn."
"You're right," said Aaron. "If a fire caught, we would be responsible for the damage!"
The group continued looking for a suitable site, deciding that it was better to be safe than sorry!
This Positive Mitzvah deals with laws applying to damage caused by a fire.
There is compassion that feeds the ego and there is compassion that humbles it. Compassion that feeds the ego is a sense of pity for those who stand beneath you.Compassion that humbles is born of a deeper understanding of the order of things: When you understand that your fellow man is suffering in order that you may be privileged to help him -- then you are truly humbled.
